Adrian Quaife-Hobbs topped the sheets in the first Auto GP Practice session in Budapest
In a session in which the teams ran different programs on different tyre compounds, the young brit of Supernova stopped the clock on a 1’34”565 that was one second quicker than the closest rival. After the session he was obviously satisfied with his start: “I hope to carry on like this, the car felt good straight out of the box and I know the track pretty well, so I could push from the very first lap”.
Adrian was followed by Giuseppe Cipriani, who made the most of a set of Supersofts from the Marrakech event to boast a 1’35”605 that allowed him to keep Chris Van der Drift behind. The Morocco Race 2 winner seemed in very good shape again and was third with a 1’35”774, just ahead of Supernova’s Victor Guerin.
Marrakech Race 1 Winner Sergio Campana was P6 and looked sure that there is much more to come from him and MLR71: “We had some little braking issues that are easy to solve, and I was lapping on a set of really old rubber, so it’s good to be already up there”.
Daniel de Jong was 7th ahead of series returnee Adderly Fong: despite missing the Valencia and Marrakech round the Chinese driver of Ombra Racing was immediately consistent and managed to enter the top 10: “I was missing this car so much, so it’s good to be back! I did a GT race in Shanghai in the meantime, so I thought that getting the feeling back would have been harder, but surprisingly I needed just a few laps”. Fong closed the session ahead of Facu Regalia, Pål Varhaug and Sergey Sirotkin, who closed the top ten. The Russian young gun is again facing a tough weekend racing in both Auto GP and the Italian F3 Championship.
